Awareness & Funding

Heading 1

Raising Awareness

It is important to raise awareness of the issues faced by refugees and asylum seekers in order to bring about practical and political solutions.

Speaking Engagements

CRAG has been involved in speaking to any interested parties offering talks on the experiences of volunteers and a balanced view of the issues we face in this ongoing humanitarian crisis. Talks have been given at the Carlisle Soroptimists, Churches Together in Cumbria's Forum for Social Responsibility as well as local schools, churches, hubs and other gathering places.

Exhibitions

During National Refugee Week in 2016, we set up the Escape to Freedom exhibition at William Howard School in Brampton where 600 children had the opportunity to experience what happens to refugees as they escape war and try to find safety. This was a very successful exercise. Their feedback was quite mature for their ages. In 2017 we held another event in Penrith. To find out more about National Refugee Week,

Carlisle’s first Unity Festival was held on August 6, 2016 for the first time. The exciting new event adds to the City’s diverse and growing community spirit. The idea is to build unity among the many diverse groups in the city and promote the idea that Carlisle is a welcoming and inclusive place where we can all feel valued, regardless of our circumstances. The festival is being held every year in July.
